Cricket betting at buji — a complete guide to betting on BPL, IPL and T20 matches
Learn about every cricket format, popular markets, how to read odds and the benefits of live betting — all in one place.
Three cricket formats and the competitions watched most
Before betting on cricket it helps to have a clear understanding of the three main formats. T20 is the fastest and most unpredictable — the pace of the match can change with every over. Odds move quickly in this format, making T20 especially interesting for live betting. ODI is a fifty-over game where mid-innings strategy and run rate become the key factors for betting. In a Test match played over five days, pitch conditions, weather and the form of individual batters and bowlers carry much greater weight.
The most popular competition among Bangladeshi fans is the BPL — the domestic T20 league featuring local and international stars. Alongside that, IPL and T20 World Cup matches also attract a lot of interest. buji also offers betting on Bangladesh Tigers international series, ICC tournaments and bilateral series.
Each competition has its own characteristics — BPL pitches differ from venue to venue, IPL squads have much greater depth, and in international matches the home or away advantage can influence results. Before you start betting, it is worth knowing how familiar you are with each competition.
Betting on football and other sports — how it differs from cricket
Alongside cricket, you can also bet on football at buji. In football a draw is a possible result in addition to a win, so the odds structure is different. In limited-overs cricket there is generally no draw — and that makes a significant difference to how markets are built.
Football has markets based on number of goals, corner kicks or cards, which are roughly equivalent to cricket's wicket, run and over-based markets. The toss result is a market of its own in cricket, something that does not exist in football. Test cricket also offers innings-level betting, which is a completely different experience from a 90-minute football match in terms of time and patience.
Betting is also possible on kabaddi, tennis and other sports, but cricket remains the most familiar and talked-about sport in Bangladesh. It is always a good idea to start betting on the sport you know best.
Football vs cricket betting
- Football has three outcomes: win, draw, loss
- Limited-overs cricket generally has two outcomes
- In cricket the toss is a market of its own
- Cricket has more wicket, run and over-based markets
- A football match lasts just 90 minutes; T20 is around 3 hours
- Test cricket offers innings-level betting
7 popular betting markets — how each one works
At buji you can bet on various markets in cricket matches. Below are seven common markets with a simple example for each.
Match Winner
Pick which team will win the match. For example — if you bet on team A to win, you win if team A wins; if they do not, you lose the bet.
Toss Winner
Bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. This is an independent market — it has no direct connection to the match result.
Top Batsman
Bet on which batsman will score the most runs in a single innings or across the whole match. The form of the team's top order is relevant here.
Total Runs Over/Under
Choose whether the total runs in an innings will be over or under a set number. For example — over or under 165 runs in team A's innings.
Multi Bet (multiple selections)
Combine multiple matches or markets in a single bet. If all selections are correct the total return is larger, but if even one is wrong the entire bet is lost.
Handicap Betting
The weaker team is given a virtual advantage of a set number of runs or wickets to level the contest. The question is whether the margin of victory will be greater or smaller than the handicap.
First wicket method or over
Bet on how many overs it will take for the first wicket to fall, or on the method of dismissal (bowled, caught, LBW, etc.). This market can also be used in in-play betting.
How to understand decimal, fractional and American odds
Odds are written in three different formats — the same price expressed three different ways. The examples below make it clear.
Example 1 — betting on team A to win (with ৳200)
Decimal 3.00 = fractional 2/1 = American +200 — all three are the same price, just written differently.
If you stake ৳200 and team A wins, your total return is ৳600 (৳400 profit + your original ৳200). If team A loses, you lose ৳200.
Example 2 — favourite team B (with ৳200)
Team B's odds are decimal 1.25 = fractional 1/4 = American -400. In American format -400 means you need to stake ৳400 to win ৳100. Staking ৳200 on team B, if they win your total return is ৳250 (৳50 profit + your original ৳200).
Things to keep in mind about odds
- The lower the odds, the more likely that team is considered to win
- Decimal odds cannot go below 1.0
- Fractional 2/1 means two units of profit for every one unit staked
- American + means underdog; - means favourite
- Odds change both before the match and during live play
How live betting shifts with wickets and overs
In-play or live betting is the most dynamic side of cricket betting. After the match starts, every wicket, every boundary and every maiden over changes the odds.
Suppose team A is batting and has lost two wickets in the first five overs — at that moment team A's odds to win will lengthen (because their position has weakened) and team B's odds to win will shorten. If a set batter then starts hitting big shots, the odds will swing in the opposite direction again.
In T20 these swings happen very fast because a single six can suddenly change the required run rate. In ODI the shifts are comparatively slower — odds move more gradually after the powerplay ends or during a slow middle-overs period. Live betting requires quick decisions, so using the buji App on mobile makes it more convenient.
Because you can see the match situation directly in live betting, you can make more informed decisions. That said, because of the pace, it is better not to bet on too many markets at once.
Some practical tips for cricket betting at buji
Betting is one form of entertainment — there is no guaranteed strategy for profit. However, a few general habits can help keep your betting experience more structured.
Stick to your budget
Decide in advance how much you are willing to spend in each session. If you reach that limit, take a break. Betting is entertainment, not a source of income.
Focus on one market
Start by focusing on a familiar market (such as match winner). Betting on too many markets at once makes it harder to keep track.
Understand the format before you bet
The same team can perform differently in T20 and Test cricket. Think about which teams are strong in which formats.
Be careful with multi bets
Multi bets offer larger returns but also carry more risk. If one selection is wrong, the entire bet is lost. When starting out, it is better not to add more than two or three selections.
Play responsibly
If betting starts to feel like stress rather than entertainment, take a break. Read the responsible gaming guidelines and stay within your limits.
Multi bet example
Three selections at decimal odds of 1.40, 1.50 and 1.60 — multiplied together: 1.40 × 1.50 × 1.60 = 3.36 (approximately). A ৳100 stake returns ৳336 if all three are correct. If even one is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost.
